A Military Wedding in a Fort

Polhawn Fort is nestled into the cliffs of in South East Cornwall. This unique wedding venue is perfectly suited to the theme of this military wedding and the weather was perfect! While I was at the fort with Natalie and her family and bridesmaids, Adj joined the others in the picturesque fishing village of Kingsand just a few miles away for a pint or three by the sea.

The wedding ceremony took place inside the fort. Plenty of candles alongside the rounded red brick ceilings provided plenty of atmosphere.

Immediately after the ceremony Alister and Natalie disappeared to spend five minutes alone while the guests headed outside for welcome drinks and the sword party assembled. The newlyweds then made their entrance to the reception by walking along the lawn with the ocean in the background.

Polhawn Fort has its own private beach – perfect for a short photo shoot. We headed down there for half an hour to get some shots of the bride and groom, and of course for the obligatory dip in the English Channel!

Rob and Maggie

Rob and Maggie got married on a windy October day in Cornwall. They chose the atmospheric venue of Polhawn Fort in Whitsand Bay which is available for exclusive hire. The fort has been beautifully renovated into a perfect wedding venue complete with its own beach and lawns overlooking the sea. They have a license for indoor and outdoor wedding ceremonies and a fully equipped kitchen so you can either do your own foor or bring in the caterers.

Rob and the boys hired a small wooden chalet ( Penquite Chalet ), on Tregonhawke Cliff just a few miles from the wedding venue. Adj joined the boys there for morning coffee and preparations while I headed off to join Maggie and the girls at the fort.

After our beach photo shoot we left Rob and Maggie alone on the beach for a little privacy – as we started to walk back up the cliff path I looked back to see them practising their first dance routine. Back inside the fort, the main room had been transformed for the wedding breakfast and an evening of dancing.
