Boconnoc – A Military Wedding
A Glastonbury Festival proposal with a plastic ring, half the Royal Air Force in attendance and a singing groom – I knew this was going to be good!
Boconnoc is one of my new favourite wedding venues. A hidden gem situated near St Austell in Cornwall. How can 300 acres be a hidden gem? Well I’ve lived in Cornwall my whole life and have only just found out about this historic estate. It is a Parish in its own right so Louise and Mark had to spend some time “living” on the grounds in the run up to the wedding in order to qualify for marrying in the beautiful Boconnoc Church.
This wedding can be summed up in one word – FUN! Everybody was ready to celebrate – even the vicar who we caught having a swig of port before the ceremony! The morning was suitably relaxed. Perhaps it was something to do with Louise’s military background but she really proved to be cool and unflinching in the run up to the ceremony. She was ready with time to spare and we had time to do a few photos and generally hang out.
I was over the moon to discover that Louise had treated herself to a pair of Vivienne Westwood wedding shoes – these are amazing wedding shoes. I have about a million different photos of them now!
The dress – a classic wedding dress by Stewart Parvin . I love the way this dress flows. Its great for photography because all the layers look like mist when it catches a breeze.
The house and church are a stone’s throw from each other – no need for hire cars at this wedding. When we arrived the whole sword party and even the vicar were digging into the port!
The ceremony was relaxed and joyful. When asked for the rings, the best man briefly presented the large plastic ring which Mark proposed with on the spur of the moment at Glastonbury Festival. As the register was being signed the guests were treated to a ‘flash mob’ style barbershop choir who had being sitting unassumingly amongst the congregation during the ceremony. A truly original and fun concept – LOVE IT!
As military folk, both Louise and Mark chose to have a strong military theme throughout the day. I loved photographing the uniforms and the sword party.
As with most weddings we still make a little time for some family and group shots but just keep it brief – there’s nothing more tedious for us or the guests than to spend half the day lining up for the camera. When I suggested that the groom kiss the best man I really wasn’t expecting such enthusiasm!
If this crowd are anything to go by then I need to shoot more military weddings!
Mark proposed to Louise at Glastonbury Festival with this funky, plastic ring.
The grounds of Boconnoc lend themselves perfectly to a photo shoot – in fact I feel like I need to go back for more as there are so many spots to choose from. We took some time out to hang out by the old stables and farm buildings which are just behind the house and church.
And a little taster of a vintage twist as I can’t make my mind up which ones I prefer!
When we returned to the house the
Western Approach
were in full swing with entertaining songs and Mark even joined in – turns out he’s got quite the voice!
The speeches were entertaining and controversial to say the least – never a dull moment with this crowd. My favourite kind of wedding!
So congratulations once again to Louise and Mark. We are planning an additional few hours on a beach somewhere in Cornwall for a ‘trash the dress” shoot, so keep an eye out for more photos of our lovebirds!
